Shaping the Future of Practising Healthcare Ethicists in Canada:

Progress, Pitfalls, and Accountability

CAPHE-ACESS Inaugural Annual Webinar - January 28, 2026

The Board of Directors are pleased to announce that we are hosting an inaugural annual webinar

The webinar will take place (in English) from:

1000-1130 PT - 1100-1230 MT - 1200-1330 CT - 1300-1430 ET - 1400-1530 AT - 1430-1600 NT

Objectives:

  • Outline the process of professionalization for regulated professions;

  • Describe current work on Practicing Healthcare Ethicists (PHEs) professionalization in Canada;

  • Reflect on benefits and pitfalls of professionalization of PHE Practice.

This session will offer an overview of what it means to pursue professionalization for PHEs, an exploration of the current state of professionalization efforts in healthcare ethics practice in Canada, and the connections to similar efforts in other jurisdictions.

We will consider the implications of this work for interested parties, including individual practitioners, ethics services, independent ethicists, employees, employers, and the public. Anticipated next steps will be reviewed with details on the deliberative engagement opportunities planned in advance of finalizing the first of a larger suite of practice-defining texts for Canadian PHEs.

This session is relevant for CAPHE-ACESS Members and non-Members alike, as well as current Ethics Practice Fellows, accreditation agencies, senior leaders in healthcare with responsibility for clinical ethics services, and the public-at-large.

Moderator: CAPHE-ACESS Chair Roz Abdool

Panelists:  CAPHE-ACESS Directors Andrea Frolic, Lauren Honan, and Kevin Reel.

See further details of the webinar, moderator, and panelists HERE.

Please note: This session is free but requires registration by midnight 23 January.

The session will also be recorded and made available to CAPHE-ACESS Members on our Members’ Resources page.

New membership applications are welcomed at any time.
